The pain can either be shooting, throbbing and/or sharp. And no one is exempt from experiencing the excruciating pain that a toothache brings since adults and children are encountering its occurrence occasionally.
Having a toothache is pretty common today because of the availability of sugar-rich foods and snacks such as soft drinks, candies, and pastries in a person's diet. This is probably the reason why toothache is experienced by many people of different ages. The presence of sugar and starches in the mouth fuels the food for bacteria. Over time, bacteria break these sugars down into acids that combine with calcium causing the tooth enamel to erode resulting to tooth decay. Studies show that tooth decay is the leading cause of a toothache.
Since the development of tooth decay is largely dependent on the kind of diet one has, the prevention of it from happening is done by correcting the individual's food intake. Proper diet must be followed if one wants to avoid tooth decay since the condition of the teeth depends on the type of food one eats everyday. Another benefit that a proper diet has is that the teeth and the jaw bones become healthier and harder each day.
Restricting sugar intake is another way to improve one's diet. The amount of sugar consumed by a person in a day is directly related to the rate of decay that his teeth will experience. But sugar should not be eliminated absolutely. Instead of taking it between meals, it would be best to take sweets are the end of a meal.
Eating raw vegetables and whole foods such as whole wheat bread is also another way to improve one's diet to avoid tooth decay. Whole foods are favored over refined foods since the latter allows food particles to accumulate into a sticky heap in between the teeth which can cause a great damage since gums need the friction to keep them firm. Whole foods are also known to remove plaque.
Aside from one's diet, it is vital to look after the care of one's teeth. Good oral hygiene should be observed everyday so that accumulation of plaque and food particles will be removed immediately. A good dental habit includes regular brushing of the teeth with a circular motion to make sure that all the surfaces of the teeth are cleaned. Stimulating the gums is also advised so that blood circulation in the area is improved significantly.
More importantly, visiting the dentist should be done on a regular basis because he will look after the health and condition of one's teeth. Doing this as part of a good oral routine helps greatly since a dentist can identify problems and recommend treatments and solutions for it, thus saving the individual from future bouts of pain brought about by a toothache.
