1) Determine the causes.
So that we will be able to come up with an effective solution, we must need to determine the causes first. There are some cases of bad breath problems that are caused by some medications. If you are under medication and you think, it causes bad breath, discuss it with your doctor. Some foods can also trigger bad breath. Examples are garlic, onions, and some other types of fish and dairy products. Milk can cause really bad breath, as well as other bad-smelling liquids. So watch your diet and refrain from such food sources to get rid bad breath.
2) Drink lots of water and tea.
Saliva washes away bacteria from our mouth so it’s very important to be well-hydrated throughout the day. Water intake can promote salivation inside the mouth and also reduces the mucus secretions in the nose passage. This mucus can cause bad breath when it becomes thicker. Drinking tea everyday can also be a great help.
3) Brush and floss daily.
Even after thorough brushing, it is still important to floss so that all areas of the mouth are cleaned, especially those in between teeth which can become dwelling spots of bacteria. Be sure to keep the tongue clean, brush it with a tongue scraper or even a regular toothbrush will do. Just be sure to brush even the back of your tongue.
4) Know the instant fixes.
Chew a sprig of parsley or mint, before and after every meal to get rid of bad breath. You can also chew a sugar-free mint or gum. Remember, it should be sugar-free because sugary gums and mints actually feed bacteria in your mouth. Sugar-free mints can absorb bad odors and like water, it promotes salivation. Gargle with a mouthwash or gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder every morning.
5) Get help from a medical expert.
Be sure to have regular visits to the dentist. We must also remember that halitosis can actually be just an outcome of other health problems so it’s important to get a check-up. It is usually caused by oral bacteria but there are cases where it is a result of postnasal drip or poor digestion. If it is the latter, consider eating a serving of “active culture” yogurt daily because it can help proper digestion and then remove internal problems that caused the bad breath.
You may ask somebody you trust and have him check your breath to see if you really have halitosis. Use toothpaste with a flavor that you like so that you can enjoy brushing your teeth and get rid of bad breath soon.
